Smith Robotics Ltd. - Project 2
2025 - Ongoing
Originally Smith Robotics approach me to design a casework for use with their wildlife sensing product, the Pippy G. They briefed me to design a three part rugged-looking casework for their wildlife detector that should initially be designed for 3D print manufacture (MJF with Solvent Smoothing Waterproofing), with a plan for making the parts injection mould-ready at a later stage.
By this stage Ryan and I had worked on several projects together so he trusted me to move quickly & efficiently. To this end, & because of the timescale for this project, I did not provide excessively glossy concept sketch work rather loose, quick drawings to quicklydiscuss the product directions with Ryan. Please see the video below for what I provided for Ryan in a week’s timeframe.
Due to various unforeseen events, the electronics design for the sensor had to change, to Smith Robotics proprietary design, the Demeter Passive Wildlife Sensor. At this point I redesigned the caseworks to fit the modified Demeter design. Smith Robotics are now selling this product on their website & it is proving popular so far.
