Smith Robotics approach me to design a casework for use with the wildlife sensor they had developed, the Demeter. Brief:

  • Design a three-part rugged sensor casework for MJF 3D printing with vapour phase waterproofing manufacture.

  • Parts should be designed for 3D print with the aim of moulding at a later stage e.g. no geometry that cannot be easily updated for moulding.

  • Design Engineering a method to lock the product out that does not require additional parts

I was not involved in the Industrial Design of this casework, although it is on show in some of the below renders. Over the course of two design sprints I developed the product caseworks, with multiple inhouse prototypes to test form and function. The product is now on sale on Smith Robotics website. It is proving very popular, the Demeter rivals the best sensors of its type in the field but at a more economic price point.
